JOY is in the JOurneY

In 2011, we relocated to the Lewis-Clark Valley with one specific intention: To start a vineyard and winery. After 8 years of dreaming, planning, unexpected adversity, and taking drastic leaps to make it happen, we finally built our winery facility and were fully licensed to operate in early 2018.

Establishing the winery was as much a test of patience and finding the right timing as the process of making the wine itself. Our Tasting Room opened in Morgan’s Alley in October of 2019. We just hope it doesn’t take another 8 years to get the vineyard planted…

Jovinea (pronounced joe-vinh-Ā-uh) is a combination of Jovial and Vinea (meaning Vine, in Latin). We wanted a name that reflected our sheer joy of finally seeing this dream through to materialization.

Our winery is a family run operation located in the panoramic Clearwater Canyon in Lenore, Idaho (even our 4-year old has helped with bottling). Our aim is to produce small lot, artisan wines with plenty of character and a hint of jovial flair. We are currently purchasing grapes from Idaho and Washington while our estate vineyard is in development, but eventually hope to source all of our grapes from the Lewis-Clark Valley AVA in northern Idaho.

We focus on letting each vintage’s wines show their true colors with minimal intervention, but we also feel that wine should be a bit playful and approachable. We have been known to fashion non-traditional blends, producing lesser known grape varietals (such as Touriga Nacional, Tinta Cao, Montepulciano, Dolcetto, & Roussanne), and creating unexpected presentation styles (Italian Rosés/Ramato, skin-fermented white wines, late harvest, etc).
